There’s a word I really love - susurrus - which means a gentle whispering, rustling sound like a tree would make in a light breeze. It’s so onomatopoeic (I had to look up the spelling of that!) The sense of being part of an infinitely bigger whole and of that whole also being part of us was present for me when I was making this piece.

(This title comes from a song by my favourite band, Depeche Mode. I often find their lyrics or song titles creeping into my work - there’s something about the combination of darkness, spirituality, moodiness and hope in their music that I really connect with and I feel like my paintings have a similar vibe.)

Acrylic and image transfer on cradled wooden panel.

25cm x 25cm (10” x 10”). Gloss varnished and ready to hang.
