'A Delicate Balance'
'A Delicate Balance'
Sometimes I like to 'zoom in' on figures as the subject of my paintings - other times I prefer to zoom out and give the figures a context, an environment, a place to be. There's a balance in my work between introspection and contemplation of the larger world and depending on where my thoughts are at a given time my paintings will largely reflect one or the other.
Here I was musing on the balance between nature and civilisation, and the relationships we have with each other and with nature. I wanted also to evoke a sense of nostalgia - the landscape draws on the moorland landscape of my upbringing in industrial Lancashire.
In addition to acrylic and oil stick I've used image transfers taken from my own photographs of trees and vegetation.
